Storage containers, rehousing, and box-building

Box and recessed mount for a bangle. Over the summer of 2024, I assisted in the re-housing of objects in the holdings of the Ukrainian Museum in the East Village. The objects that I had worked with had been stored in anoxic chambers following a moth infestation. Re-housing these objects entailed careful vacuuming with a Nilfisk GM-80 vaccuum and inspection of Ukrainian kilims and sheepskin kozhukh with tweezers.

This re-housing effort also necessitated the creation of new storage boxes for these objects. The museum’s compact shelving allowed for 36” x 18” boxes; the existing boxes that they had on hand ranged from 48”x 32” to 60” x 28”. With the help of two colleagues, we re-sized the boxes to be compatible with the museum’s particular storage needs.
